The Ultimate Guy Living Room

While generalizing is something that isn’t recommended most of the time, it is fair to say we can please most, if not all, of an entire gender with our living room design. The ultimate guy living room is one of absolute class, style, and technology. Most men do not like to be without a big screen T.V. on game day, just as they wouldn’t want a living room design to not come with a table for their snacks. This article is dedicated to the ultimate guy living room.

Why wait, let’s get to the most important element of any men’s room, the T.V. Not just any T.V. will do for the ultimate guy living room; therefore we must give it some parameters. The T.V. in the ultimate guy living room is at least 50 inches big, and comes flat as a wall. Think LCD, or Plasma, or both! This living room design is meant for the most serious fan.

One common complaint amongst men is the breakability of most furniture, thus our room comes stocked with one large industrial steel table. If you have trouble imagining this element of the ultimate guy living room, think about a warehouse, or factory, during the industrial age, and think of the heavy duty tables that were used to work on. For our living room we’d take a table right out of the factory, and do nothing to it, but wipe the dust off of it.

Next, the ultimate guy living room must include a plethora of ultra comfortable sofas. Each sofa would be in a dark color, thus not to run into staining issues, and come with steel nail reinforced covering for those times when the couch gets tossed around like laundry in a spin cycle.

Finally, the ultimate guy living room would come stocked with wooden bookshelves, and an open canvas art that helped to accent the masculine nature of the room. Books would need to have some dense binding to them as they would be stacked sparingly on the shelves, and the art would be modern, but not over the top.

For those that want the ultimate guy living room, simply follow the above plan, and enjoy. There will be countless guys that come over, and compliment you on the coolness of your room. Simply interpret that as a pat on the back for a living room design well done.

The Ultimate Ladies’ Living Room

Disclaimer, I have no real proof that a lady would love this room I’m about to share with you, and in fact, since I am not of this gender, I am purely speculating on my experience with women, which is shaky at best. However, it seems that women want certain things out of a room that can be categorized into one room. This room is in fact, the ultimate ladies living room.

What feminine living area would be suitable without the color pink? Well, most likely people agree that pink is a feminine color, yet some people don’t like it to be the center piece of the room. For this reason, we will do the wall paper in a pastel color, something like baby blue, or a canary yellow, with a pink accent below the white crown molding.

The room will include a classic design of tan leather sofas, with plenty of space for those gigantic magazines that seem to cover fashion in dictionary proportions. The magazine racks would of course match the sofa, and be a gentle colored rod iron look.

The ultimate ladies living room would be enhanced by a moderately sized plasma television that most would agree is proportioned to the room correctly. The television would be housed with a casing made of a dark wood, maple, or teak would do fine. It would further be stained for a luxurious look.

Our room would include a day bed that embodied the word class. The day bed’s mattress would be of maroon color, and the pillows would range from gold, to white, with intricate embroiders on them. The day bed would be her throne, after a long day of work; she could fall on it like a queen after long day of ruling her land.

For a coffee table, glass would be the prevailing element, with sleek black legs that worked in conjunction to hold it up. Another great thing about the ultimate ladies living room is the fact that it will include a diverse collection of art, that all had dark color combinations in common. The dark colors of the paintings would play perfectly off of the light pastel colors on the walls.

Finally the room would have a Persian rug that would cover the hardwood. While the hardwood would match the television case, the rug would perfectly go with the day bed, creating a harmonious marriage of beautiful elements.

Interior Design Tips For Smaller Living Rooms

Living room in every home generally has the largest volume. The simple reason behind this is a living room is considered as a “gateway” to all other internal spaces. But in case of an apartment block in crowded city, scarcity of space is an issue resulting in compact architectural planning. This gives rise to apartments with bare minimum spaces.

Whatever be the case we can make minor changes to internal design and presentation to create a look and feel of a bigger living room.

There is one very important thumb rule when it comes to playing with internal spaces. The more light you will allow to enter a room, the more it will be perceived as a big room as far as volume is concerned. Also if you use brighter color shades that will help a uniform and smooth reflection of light equally in all the corners of the living room, it will be easier and effortless transition from small to big
room perception.

There are certain points we can consider here.

1) Avoid using heavy furniture such as big stuff sofas, wardrobes or bookshelves that have closed shutters. Instead if you use sofas with sleek frame (like the one in bamboo furniture) this will create more transparency and will help in perception of more space. Also storage units such as TV unit, book shelves if kept open will reveal more wall surface behind them and reduce the “bulky” look.

In an interior space that is empty the perception of “small or big” is usually decided depending upon the dimensions of the space. The volume of the space defined by the boundaries of walls, floor and ceiling defines the space. The openings in the walls further help in reducing the bulkiness of the space. Next when the furniture fits in its place the importance or influence of the walls reduces and all
attention gets focused on the furniture facades.

That’s why it is necessary to use sleek furniture in smaller rooms, that will help in revealing the true nature of a space.

2) Allow more light to enter the living room by using light curtains. Instead of using heavy looking “valances” use simple and if possible semi transparent curtains that are just enough to reduce glare that might be caused because of direct sunlight.

3) Use brighter color schemes commonly known as “hot” color schemes. These create a very good transmission and reflection of natural as well as artificial light inside the living room.

There is one more different approach to defining the perception of the living room (or any interior space) and that’s the empty volume left behind after all the furniture and other accessories have been fitted. Because anything in our living world is always “relative”. The perceived volume is always relative to the empty volume that is normally used for circulation. The more empty volume you get, the bigger the room will look.

This also applies with transmission of light in all the spaces. The more you can get inside the room better it is for the healthy habitat inside the living room.

I hope this article was informative and will help you understand the concept of smaller and bigger perception of internal spaces.
